Girl’s Ombre Maxi Skirt

Girl's ombre maxi skirt sewn by Skirt Fixation

It’s been a while since I sewed Annie a maxi skirt.  As fast as she’s growing, the last maxi skirt I made her wasn’t maxi for very long either!  So it was time to keep the maxi skirt love alive and growing.  She fell in love with my ombre maxi skirt last year, and we recently found the perfect fabric.

For the pattern we used the girl’s version of the Jocole A-line maxi skirt.  This time we sewed a size 6 in width, and size 10 in length.  (She’s so lucky to have a mom who sews for her!)

The beautiful fabric is blue ombre double brushed poly from Simply By Ti.  This is Annie’s 1st garment made from double brushed poly.  Just like everyone else with their 1st double brushed poly garment, she is in total adoration over the softness and comfort.  This fabric is also available in a pink ombre color.  Which Annie would have adored as well!

Interestingly enough, recently Annie went shopping in our attic where her older sisters store the clothes they’ve outgrown until they fit Annie.  It was very fun for all of us to see how some of the first skirts we sewed and refashioned for Aria now are fitting Annie!

It was intriguing to see how much our sewing skills have improved since then too.  Refashioning is a good way to put old clothes to use again, to stir the creative mind, and to get back into the sewing groove.

We sometimes still refashion around here, but more often we have been choosing to sew a garment from start to finish.

The fabric for this post was provided by Simply By Ti.  Honest review is by us!  Annie styled this ombre maxi skirt with her Geneva Cardigan, blogged here.

A Denim Mini Makeover For Annie!

denim mini makeover

Well, we haven’t done a refashion for Annie for a while, so I thought that I would do one for her today, and make it a bit of a surprise. The only problem was, when I went to look for stuff for her to wear, the only things that I could find were very spring-y. The weather right now is anything but spring-y, but I decided that it might be good if Annie had some spring outfits, so I went ahead and made the little skirt anyway. denim mini makeoverI started with this cute denim mini from Goodwill for $2.50. It has little hearts on it, and rhinestones, and sprinkles of color. The back pockets have alternating pink and green thread stitched across them.  Time for a denim mini makeover!

green skirt repairI found a little green skirt that was just the color of the green on the denim mini in the mending box.  Why was it in the mending box?  Well, do you see a gaping hole in the front of it? Big problem there, folks. Also, the skirt had an ombre effect that, with the green color of the skirt, made it look mucho washed out.

Step by Step denim mini makeover instructions:

First I cut off the bottom three tiers of the skirt, just below the tear, and cut and re-sewed the resulting tube so that it wasn’t so big.

Secondly, I gathered the top of the skirt and

Thirdly sewed it to the bottom of the denim mini.

denim mini makeover refashionSuch a cute little skirt now! I surprised Annie, and threw it down in front of her, and she couldn’t believe that it was hers. I feel kind of proud of myself, because I didn’t have any help from Mom, and the gathering was slightly difficult.

denim mini makeoverAlso, I sewed the green layers to the denim the wrong way – twice – before I got it right, but forget that I said that, it can be our little secret!

back pocket detailDo you see the cute back pocket stitching detail?  It helped me decide exactly what color to add to the bottom of the skirt!

Total Time: 30 minutes

Total Cost: $2.50

Talent Level: Beginner Seamstress

Denim mini makeover refashionWell, I had fun making this, and Annie will have fun wearing it, whenever there’s no more ice and snow on the ground!

Always be Exciting,

Skirt Alert – Ombre Skirts

For today’s skirt alert, I decided to do three ombre skirts. I love ombre, especially on skirts!

ombre blue skirt

1. Athleta blue ombre skirt

This is a beautiful ombre maxi skirt that looks like it would be sooo comfortable! I would wear this with brown flats and a brown tee.

peach ombre anthropologie skirt

2. Anthropologie peach ombre skirt.

I loooooove the lace detail that fades down into a gradual ombre! so classy! I would wear this with brown pumps and a white button-down top.

3. Anthropologie blue giraffe skirt.

The giraffes on this skirt are so adorable!!! I love the tie, and the way the color is darker at the top of the skirt instead of the bottom. I would pair this with black flats and a black button-down blouse.

Well, that’s this week’s Skirt Alert!

Always be exciting,
