10 Classy Things to use up fabric scraps - for kids!

Today I’m bringing you the next in a series on classy things to create with leftover scraps.  Sometimes you have fabric that is so special for one reason or another that you can’t bear to throw away the scraps.  For the purpose of this series, we’re going to call scraps anything smaller than a fat quarter.  Today we’re focusing on classy things to make for kids using scraps.

#1 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Kid backpacks

Forest Floor laminated backpacks sewn by Skirt Fixation

While this free pattern calls for 1/2 yard of the main fabric (and we promised to keep it to a fat quarter for this series) the boy backpack we made using different fabrics for each part used less than 1/4 yard of each.  And what boy wouldn’t want one of these?

#2 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Animal pouches

These little pouches were so fun to make and my daughter even helped me make them!  She turned all the tiny ear and eye pieces right side out.

#3 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Headband

Way back at the beginning of the blog we made this headband.  And since then we’ve made quite a few more because headbands only use tiny scraps of knit fabric.

My son begged for this mask, and how could I say no when it only required scraps of fabric and a little time?

#6 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Accent panel

When a pattern has a small accent panel, it’s a great opportunity to use scraps, either special ones or neutral ones to accentuate the other fabric like we did on this Mara blouse.

#7 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Personalized quilt

CustomQuilt Once a kid starts reading, they develop favorites.  We’ve sewed many of these bookshelf quilts as special orders for kids with favorite book choices!  (And we even have a few for custom order listed in our Etsy shop.)

#8 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Bear/doll sleeping bag

This little darling cap only used a circle of canvas fabric.  And caps on babies are about the cutest classy use of scraps you can imagine!

#10 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Pockets

When fabric is just too cute to part with, an accent pocket is the way to go!  Also, we’ve used it to create coordinating brother and sister outfits that don’t end up too matchy-matchy.

BONUS! #11 Classy Way to Use Fabric Scraps for Kids: Balloon Animals

BalloonWe saw these darling little stuffed balloon animals, each made from 1/4 yard of knit fabric on the Little Inspiration blog, and knew we had to include them in this series.  Hello classy use of scraps!  And there is no choking on a balloon concern with these either.  Win-win!

Alright, that’s it for this time.  Leave a comment letting us know what you do with fabric scraps you can’t bear to throw away.
