Jade Skirt {Selfish Sewing Week}

Sometimes when we discover a skirt pattern we think it’s so awesome, we have to have it! That’s the way it was for Allegra with the Jade Skirt pattern.

Jade Skirt sewn by Skirt FixationThe Jade Skirt pattern is created by Paprika Patterns. It can be made in 2 lengths, with or without an exposed zipper. Knit fabric is used. The Jade Skirt can be made in 10 sizes.

Jade Skirt sewn by Skirt FixationWhat is unique about the Jade Skirt is the folded front. It’s not too difficult to do if you follow all the instructions. First I practiced with the paper template given. Then, I watched the video to see it done live before trying mine. And you know what? I got it right the first time!

Jade Skirt sewn by Skirt FixationThe other tutorial I used was on adding length to the bottom. I made View B, the longer one, so I only needed to add 1 inch to hit at Allegra’s knee. On a skirt like this, a tutorial is definitely needed.

Jade Skirt sewn by Skirt FixationThe Jade Skirt pattern instructions are very thorough. The illustrations are drawn. I only ran into one little confusion; the fold mark on the waistband is very small, so I didn’t realize I was supposed to cut it out on a fold. It ended up okay, but because the waistband is shaped, next time I’ll be sure to notice that fold line. In fact, I’ve already marked it in bold letters on my pattern piece!

Jade Skirt sewn by Skirt FixationOne surprising thing about the Jade Skirt is it’s comfort!  A skirt this business like doesn’t necessarily make you think of comfort, but this one really is.  The back of the Jade Skirt is plain with no fabric origami.  Allegra and I couldn’t decide why.  What do you think?
The fabric we chose to use for the Jade Skirt is perfect for that use.  We got it from Imagine Gnats.  It’s ponte de roma in charcoal.

Jade Skirt sewn by Skirt FixationThe Jade Skirt is fully lined, and this fabric was perfect for both layers. With leggings and a sweater, this skirt can stretch across 3 seasons.  (Maybe another Jasper Sweater?)
Now technically this isn’t a true selfish sewing week make since I (Audrey) sewed it for Allegra. But since Allegra cooked me breakfast and cleaned the house for a day so I could sew her this, I’m going to call it even! What do you think? Which side of this trade would you prefer?

  1. I really love how this turned out! It looks perfect on Allegra. I might have to give this skirt a shot eventually! Thanks for the inspiration. Also, I think you got the better end of the deal– I would much rather see than clean the house… Which is why my house looks the way it does, currently.

  2. I would much rather sew… great deal! Love the folded look of the skirt, it suits her very well. 🙂

  3. I would rather cook and clean than sew, no question!! Thinking maybe I should spend a day or three at your house and get some new wardrobe pieces! <3

  4. This is awesome! This is the pattern I am looking for.
