The Daphne skirt is the next skirt to walk down the runway for our All The Skirts: Simple Life Pattern Company & Phat Quarters series.
Like last week’s Tilly Skirt, the Daphne skirt is a super fun layered skirt. The Daphne skirt can be made in 9 sizes from 2T to 12. In other words, your little girl will be able to wear a skirt like this for many years to come!
The Daphne skirt can be made as a single layer skirt with pockets, or a double layer skirt like we made with no pockets. There are no pattern pieces with the Daphne skirt pattern, but a cutting chart instead. I love that as it saves paper, time and cutting.
The Daphne skirt is quick and easy to put together. There are additional instructions for adding a lace underskirt if you wish. The Daphne skirt has a wide waistband which is flat in the front and elastic in the back. Annie tells me this makes it really comfortable.
The pattern recommends woven fabrics, but we decided to try and see if knit could be used for the overskirt. And yep, we’d call it a success!
These fabrics are from Phat Quarters. The striped fabric is called Row by Row Deep, an Art Gallery Knit fabric designed by Bonnie Christine for her Cultivate line. (Remember when we used Cultivate fabric on this blouse?) Of course it’s soft and flowy and I want some more to make something for myself!
The waistband and underskirt are made from peppered cotton. Phat Quarters has a whole bunch of peppered cottons, each one lovely. This color brown is called Coffee Bean Peppered Cotton, and made me crave a mocha latte the whole time I was sewing with it! And I haven’t had a mocha latte in years if that tells you how good this fabric is!
