Baby Pepper’s Peekaboo Ruffle Skirt {All The Skirts: SLPco & Phat Quarters}

Hi! I am Teri from FA Sew La and I am thrilled to be guest posting at Skirt Fixation today as part of All The Skirts: SLPco + Phat Quarters edition. I have loved following along with this series and seeing all of the amazing skirts that Audrey has been making. (I am more than a little jealous of Annie’s wardrobe!) Simple Life Pattern Co has one skirt pattern that comes in size newborn to 24 months, Baby Pepper’s Peekabo Ruffle Skirt. Audrey asked if I would like to make the skirt for my 14 month old daughter, Caroline, and I jumped at the chance.

Baby Pepper’s skirt is a double layered skirt with 2 ruffled borders and a sweet little pick-up tie. This is the kind of skirt I dreamed about sewing up for my little girl long before I actually had my own little girl. It is so pouffy and frilly and adorable.

It’s an easy sew; there are no pattern pieces, just dimensions given and photo illustrations to guide you along the way. This skirt requires a lot of gathering. I really appreciated the tip that is given in the pattern to sew the basting stitch at the longest length with your machine’s tension cranked up to the highest level. Doing this causes the fabric to gather on it’s own and you can just finesse the ruffles a bit as you pin them in place.

The fabric I used was provided by Phat Quarters. The three prints are from the line Bunny Garden by Lewis & Irene (here, here, and here) and the two solids are Art Gallery solids (here and here.)

I love the body that these fabrics gave to the ruffles on this skirt and those tiny flowers and bunnies are just too cute. I made the biggest size, 18-24 months, in the hopes that Caroline will be able to wear this for quite a while. It will be an easy fix to adjust the length of the elastic in the waist as she grows.

Are those jazz hands?!? I had a hilarious time trying to get pictures of this little mover. She isn’t walking yet but she pulls up on everything. She kept trying to scoot away from me whenever I put her on the ground. She actually giggled when I put this skirt on her, which I think means she loves it as much as I do!

Thank you so much to the ladies at Skirt Fixation for having Caroline and me! Thanks to Phat Quarters and SLPco for the adorable fabric and pattern. You’ve made this mama’s “baby in a frilly skirt” dreams come true!
