2 Swingset Skirts for the Sew Along

Oliver + S is having a Swingset Skirt sew along, and we simply couldn’t miss out!  We sewed a Swingset Skirt pattern during All The Skirts: Oliver+S & Fat Quarter Shop in a size 5 because that was the largest size the pattern went up to.  But now, Oliver+S has expanded the sizes of the Swingset Skirt pattern, and it goes all the way up to size 14!

As Aria needed some fall/winter skirts, she was first in line for a new skirt.  We decided to make it reversible and that way she could get in effect get two new skirts for her wardrobe.

She chose some black chambray fabric for one side and a sueded blue polyester for the other side.  We made a few modifications to the swingset pattern.

First of all, we lengthened it to allow for growth and Aria’s height.  Although she fits into a size 14 around, she is getting to be very tall indeed.  So we added 9 inches to the bottom of the Swingset Skirt Pattern.

The other change we made was to use 1” elastic at the waist and eliminate the drawstring.  Partly to make it reversible and partly to better hold up the weight of these two fabrics.

As hard as I tried to make these two skirts even around the bottom to be completely reversible, you can see a bit of the black chambray peeking out on the bottom when the skirt is on the blue side.  But Aria said she doesn’t mind and it’s better than if the blue showed on the black side.  She says it’s her new favorite skirt!

One benefit of lengthening this Swingset Skirt was it turned out super swirly and twirly!

Now since I already had a size 5 Swingset Skirt pattern all ready to go, it seemed to make sense to make another Swingset Skirt.

The fabric choices for this one are Michael Miller Color Me Tippy Toes Fabric (affiliate link) and a pink shot cotton.  Then because it was ballerinas and the color pink, it seemed incomplete without some tulle, so we added a layer of tulle between the skirt and the lining.

On this Swingset Skirt, we made the lining longer so as to have a pop of pink stick out the bottom of the skirt.  And it makes the drawstring pop too!

The only mistake I made was that I forgot that I added length to the first Swingset Skirt I made for Annie, and so this one turned out a little short!  It’s okay though, some little girl will be delighted when her mom/grandma buys it from our shop.  You can buy it here!  We’ll probably even include a package of fabric markers so she can color it herself.

We’re going to link up these skirts to the Swingset Skirt sew along over at Oliver+S, and you should really go check out that sew along because there are some seriously CUTE skirts there.
