Butterfly Skirt & Blouse {All The Skirts: Oliver+S and Fat Quarter Shop}

Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt Fixation

Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationThe Butterfly Skirt and Blouse pattern, ah what a little jewel!  You might think that with 10 skirt patterns in the Oliver+S library, another one was going to be reduntant somehow!  But once again, Liesl came up with a unique pattern that is both classic and on trend.  The lines of the skirt will never go out of style, and the peplum top is so perfectly in style right now!  Let’s start with the skirt, of course!Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationThe Butterfly Skirt pattern is a simple little skirt with all the important details worked in.  There are two little, center-facing pleats on either side of the front. Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationThe back is gently gather with elastic, and the ingenious way the back is gathered allows for the use of buttonhole elastic, which we did once again.  We made Annie the size 5 with a size 10 length, so this pattern is consistent on sizing as the rest of the Oliver+S skirt patterns.  We just know what adjustments to make for our TALL girl!Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationAs far as fabric choices, we thought it was fitting to end the edition of All The Skirts where we started; with Bonnie Christine fabric and ribbon!  This is Winged Nesting Blooms Cool, and the large print is just the right scale for the Butterfly Skirt.  This skirt patterns sews up very fast; we could probably make the next one in under an hour!Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationThe Butterfly Blouse is a sweet little peplum top.  We chose the cap sleeves version, there is also a ruffle sleeve version.  The peplum has gathering across the front, and sits right at the waist. Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationWe chose to accentuate the peplum by adding the coordinating Nesting Blooms ribbon from Renaissance Ribbons across the front just above the peplum.  We topstitched it on before sewing the front and back together.  If we would have had more of it, we would have taken it all the way around which would look really sweet too. Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationThe neckline was a little bit of a nuisance; I sewed it on 3 times and still am not totally happy with the way it lays!  Also, button and loop closures are not Annie’s favorite thing on the back of a blouse due to it catching her hair, so next time (and there definitely will be a next time!) we’ll have to change it up a little!  The fabric we used for the Butterfly Blouse is also from Bonnie Christine’s Winged line.  I just love the color or it, so fresh and minty!  It is called Frilly Flutters in Mist.Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationThe arrival of our Rhode Island Red chicks the same day as I completed this outfit made for the perfect photo shoot.  One of the chicks arrived with an injured foot, and Annie was so concerned about the poor little thing!  Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationAnnie will be wearing the Butterfly Skirt and Blouse often this summer.  It’s perfectly suited to keep her looking fresh on hot summer days.  Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationAnnie’s hair, once again, is courtesy of Allegra’s magic!  They even found a sweet little butterfly hair clip.Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt FixationThe Butterfly Skirt and Blouse pattern by Oliver+S wraps up All The Skirts: Oliver+S and Fat Quarter Shop.  We hope you enjoyed this edition as much as we did.  We are downright sad to see this version come to an end!  The Oliver+S skirts were so very delightful to sew; each one was unique and special.  (Did you miss one?  You can see them all here.)  Friday marks the start of the next edition of All The Skirts, so stay tuned!Butterfly Top and Skirt made by Skirt Fixation

  1. I’ve loved everything you’ve made from the Oliver + S patterns, but this might be my favorite. I love the fabrics you chose and the ribbon trim is so perfect!

  2. That turned out cute! I like the fabrics and ribbon.

  3. This ensemble is just beautiful! The fabrics and trim are perfect together and look lovely on your gorgeous daughter.

  4. […] I’ve had my eye on the Oliver+S Parachute Polo Shirt pattern ever since it was released this spring.  Now we have both the patterns (the entire Spring 2015 release from Oliver+S) and we’ve already made the Butterfly Blouse & Skirt. […]
