The Oliver + S Sailboat Skirt And Top pattern sums up poetry in skirt form! This skirt was seriously so fun to put together that we’d sew up another one just for the pure joy of seeing it all come together. You could probably make this skirt many, many times without getting tired of constructing it.
We chose to use buttonhole elastic and left the sides of the elastic casing open. The button is sewn through a single layer of the side piece. The insides of the Sailboat Skirt are professionally finished with finished, clean seams. There was no point during the instructions where we were lost or unclear about what to do! That’s pretty rare. Once again, we sewed the size 5 with the size 8 length.
The Sailboat Top can be made from either knit or woven fabrics. We chose knit this time as Annie prefers knits for everyday wear. The details on this shirt really make it worthwhile.
The Sailboat Top and Skirt pattern has a pants pattern with it, so you are basically getting three patterns for the price of one!
Once again, the name of the skirt sort of dictated the fabric choice and the photo shoot! We used Moda Passport Blueprint The Hamptons fabric from Fat Quarter Shop. Let us tell you, this fabric is so soft and smooth. It sews up crisp corners and flat seams.
Besides all that, it’s about the prettiest nautical fabric ever! So much that we couldn’t resist selecting one ship to appliqué onto the front of the Sailboat Shirt. (We did something similar last spring!) If you need a little sophisticated nautical flair in your life, visit Fat Quarter Shop, where they have 23 different fabrics from the Passport line.
We found all the fabrics for this bag in our stash, so it qualifies for the Sew My Stash 2015 Bag Challenge too! Talk about serendipity!
The solid red is pleather, the polka dot red is leftover from this skirt, and the nautical is a home dec fabric from years and years ago.
All right, enough about us! It’s time for you to get involved. If you haven’t already done so, take a minute to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway for a chance to win Oliver + S skirt patterns and a gift certificate to Fat Quarter Shop.
