Recently we got to have a lot of fun! This is because sewing the Game Day Dress and Jersey were lots of fun to sew and wear! The Game Day Dress and Jersey is a Wee Muses pattern, the brainchild of Annaliese of Aesthetic Nest.
We made both a Game Day dress for Annie, and a Game Day Jersey for Thomas.
Even though we were testing the pattern for Annaliese, both garments turned out really nice and totally wearable! But one at a time…
The Game Day Dress Review:
We sewed up a Game Day Dress for Annie, sewing it exactly as instructed. We used part of the last of the four pieces of Birch Organic Flight Knit fabric from Fabricworm. And we used creamy white knit from JoAnn Fabrics to complete the rest of the dress. (Scary, I know, to use white for a 6 year old, but so far it’s still white!!)
I added the optional sport strip down the side of the dress, and I finally found the perfect color match in the reverse side of the fabric (from JoAnn’s) that I used to make my Jocole yoga skirt!
We made her a size 4 with size 6 length. Next time we make it, we’ll lengthen it even more. This isn’t necessarily a problem with the pattern, this girl is just growing fast and tall! But with a pair of tights (which is good for winter too!) this dress is great fun for Annie.
The dress is really comfortable for Annie, and she even asked me if she could sleep in it!
I did find myself switching back and forth to my double needle often while sewing these two garments, but I think most of the topstitching could be saved until the end.
The Game Day Jersey Review:
Annaliese wanted some of her testers to try out the Game Day Dress and Jersey for boys, and we were happy to do that for Thomas. For his jersey, we used a grey dress (shhh! don’t tell Thomas) and a dreamy soft navy jersey knit from Imagine Gnats.
We also used seam binding for the contrast strips on the sleeves instead of making our own from the navy jersey. (Those edges tend to curl anyway on jersey, and this simplified matters entirely!) The instructions were easy to follow and just about the same as the dress, just shorter!
Next time, I will make the sleeves longer for Thomas, but again, that’s genetics, not pattern issues.
Thomas loves his new jersey, and I think he feels very sporty when he wears it.
We gave Annaliese the thumbs up for making her pattern work for boys and girls both!
If you want to add the Game Day Dress and Jersey to your pattern library, (and we totally encourage you to do that!) you can find the pattern here in the Wee Muses pattern shop.
