Kids Clothes Week Day 1

This week is Kids Clothes Week!  We’re going to do several thing differently this week, the foremost being blogging “in real time!”  This means the posts probably aren’t going to be scheduled ahead of time, so be prepared for some tardy posts.

If you don’t already know, Kids Clothes Week is a week where many, many seamstress-bloggers sew for an hour (or more) per day for one week.  This happens several times in the year, and you can use the search box on the sidebar to search Kids Clothes Week to see what we did last time around.  If you’re interested!  This time, Kids Clothes Week has a storybook theme.  So this week I am being inspired by 2 storybooks.

Heckedy Peg

Heckedy Peg by Audrey Wood is about a Mom with 7 children named Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  How cool is that?  I mean, if I’d have known about 17 years ago that I’d be having 7 children…

The Seven Silly Eaters

The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman.  This book is about a mom whose seven children all have very silly eating preferences.  And there’s a cello in there somewhere too!  These books don’t really have much in common except 7 children and their Mom.  So this week, I am going to sew one thing each day for my 7 children!  I may have to spend more than an hour each day, but I (and they) are excited about the prospective outcomes.

Tween kimono by Skirt FixationAria received the first day’s project, a tween kimono.  She has been wanting a kimono for over a week now, and found the perfect fabric in the stash!  There are lots of kimono tutorials on the internet, and so we mashed several together to make this tween kimono.  (I promise to post the tutorial next week, with another kimono I made for me!  But this week is all about kids…)

Tween Kimono

Allegra both styled Aria’s outfit for this post and took the photos.  Aria is very happy with her new kimono.  Kimonos are all the rage right now and very comfortable and fun to wear.  (Believe me, I know!  But more about that next week!)

Are you sewing along with Kids Clothes week?  What storybooks inspire you?  Did you see Annie’s book inspired skirt?  Don’t worry, she’s getting something this week too!  After all, the Mom and 7 kids thing!
